Hypnosis for Weight loss – Mind over Mass!

If you’re one among the frustrated millions worldwide who are at their wit’s end when it comes to their never-ending struggle with food, you are probably on the right page. Weight loss (the healthy way, at least) tends to be the great leveller for most people irrespective of their social or economic status. Sure, there are the ones who are just endowed with the right genes and a naturally high metabolic rate, but for the rest of us mortals, there is still hope. No, we are not talking about anything involving scalpels, syringes or questionable pills, tea bags and tummy belts promising magic in a week. If you’ve spent considerable time and effort understanding weight loss, you probably know by now that it is pointless to try and get a quick fix. So this isn’t about fad diets or even rigorous exercise.

Yes, we are talking about hypnosis for weight loss. Don’t roll your eyes just yet. Hypnosis has somehow over the years, gained a reputation for being a type of entertainment. However, the truth is, it is extremely valuable in the practice of medicine and is used as a type of psychotherapy and is known to produce outstanding results especially in people dealing with chronic pain, fear, anxiety, life-controlling habits – which brings us back to hypnosis for weight loss.

What exactly is hypnosis?

 The word hypnosis basically translates as ‘Sleep of the nervous system’.  Hypnosis is a temporary altered state of consciousness wherein, practitioners work with the emotional content deposited in their patients’ psyche. First, the therapist begins to talk to patients about their problems and then when they are lulled into an impressionable state, makes suggestions to alter their behavior that would lead to lifestyle changes. So, hypnosis for weight loss is definitely something to consider if you, like millions of others, struggle with self-control, sticking to your decisions about food, bingeing, emotional eating, eating when bored or finding in comfort in food.

Hypnosis for Weight loss

Before you get totally excited and decide to book an appointment with the nearest hypnotist, you should know that hypnotism by itself, is not going to get you the results  you want – which is basically cause you to lose weight overnight the way you could briefly by popping diet pills. It should be used as an adjunct to behavioral changes.1

It is only a method wherein you attempt to tackle the problem at the root – by controlling your impulses from where they originate – in your consciousness and then working from there. So if you go to a hypnotist for weight loss, he is most likely to talk to you first about your lifestyle and eating patterns to gain some understanding as to what your problem really is.

If he finds that your problem is your lack of self control or tendency to go with your impulses, he will then get you to that altered state of consciousness and make changes at the core. Thereby empowering you to think and respond differently. You may still feel the impulses, but you may be less likely to act on them. At least that’s what hypnosis is supposed to do.

And since weight loss is something that can only be lasting if certain lifestyle changes and alterations in the eating pattern has been made, hypnosis for weight loss might just be the thing you need to help you achieve your weight loss goals without further frustration.2

Another thing you should know before you opt for hypnosis for weight loss is that hypnosis works best on people who are submissive or open to the experience as opposed to those who come with a lot of skepticism. While you can do nothing about the very real doubts that you may have, it might be helpful to take a look at the statistics backing up hypnosis as a valid, clinically approved alternative for weight loss.

 Studies backing hypnosis for weight loss

  • In a study done with 60 women participating, where one group used hypnosis and the other did not, the hypnosis group lost 17 pounds while the non-hypnosis group lost .5 pounds. That is an alarming difference to begin with and totally worth the try. That’s not all.
  • In a different study, using hypnosis as an adjunct to weight loss treatment led to 97 percent increase in weight loss while undergoing treatment. In addition, a 146 percent improved weight loss maintenance effectiveness was recorded. Further proof that hypnosis for weight loss works better even in the long run.
  • In a third study, those using hypnosis in weight loss treatment lost 11.83 pounds while those not using hypnosis lost 6 pounds.3

So if you’re skeptical at all, there are the facts right there. Sure, there is no guarantee that hypnosis for weight loss might actually be the right method for you. But given the significantly outstanding results, it is definitely worth a try. After all, unlike the magic pills and injections, there are no side-effects to this method. Except, hypnosis does put you in a compromised state of consciousness at least temporarily and it’s important that you seek out a licensed and certified practitioner.

So once you’ve decided on trying hypnosis for weight loss, go with a fair amount of anticipation. Expect to make changes and see yourself eating healthy, exercising regularly and making healthy choices on a daily basis. After all, if hypnosis has helped millions of people quit life-controlling habits such as smoking, substance abuse and overcome childhood trauma, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and other deep-rooted, psychological problems, hypnosis for weight loss really should be a piece of cake for someone who genuinely wants to make a positive lifestyle change!
